Jacksonville, FL — A vigil was held for a 10-year-old Jacksonville boy killed in a crash on I-10 near Chaffee Road on Tuesday night. Katie Harrison was Eli Warren's nanny and is a close family friend.
“Eli was precious,” Harrison said. “He loved Chris Farley, and to laugh, and he was incredibly empathetic. And he really loved people, and he was a wonderful kid.”
The Warren's church, the Maranatha Church of Jacksonville, came together for an emotional vigil remembering Eli, but also praying for the recovery of his mother, Releia, who's still hospitalized. She volunteers in the youth ministry at Maranatha.
“You will not meet a better friend,” Harrison said. “She knows everybody's birthdays, she's the best person, and she's incredibly strong. She's tough as nails.”
The Florida Highway Patrol said Tuesday night, a semi driver lost control on I-10 and overturned near Chaffee Road. They said his truck went through the median and hit the Warrens head-on. Troopers have not charged the 51-year-old driver from Atlanta or said what may have led up to this.
FHP confirmed the driver’s license was valid.
