Daycare burglary suspect found in attic

Jacksonville, FL — After a Northside daycare was broken in to three times in only a few days, but now the man believed to be responsible for at least one of the burglaries has been caught.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says 43-year-old Liddell McGrier was caught in the act at the Juzt Kidz Learning Center on Winton Drive Sunday. The arrest report says JSO received a burglary alarm just before 9PM, and a school employee, a friend of that person, and the officer waited outside for backup to arrive. The officer saw the suspect inside, and then saw him try to get out a window unsuccessfully. When JSO cleared the building, they did not find a suspect, but did notice a hole in the ceiling. McGrier was found in the attic.

McGrier has been arrested on one count of burglary.

This daycare has been burglarized twice before, in the same day. During the first incident last Thursday, the suspect broke through a wall and stole hundreds of dollars in food, supplies, and a desktop computer. The hole was patched with cinder blocks, but the suspect nonetheless got in again through the same hole. During that second break-in, the suspect apparently made a sandwich and bagged up a few items, but didn't take anything else.

Jail records show McGrier was booked early this morning. He has only been charged with Sunday’s break-in at this time.
