Jacksonville, FL — He touted spending on the environment and education, while at the same time cutting taxes and growing the state's reserves.
"I think it's a fiscally responsible budget. I think we put taxpayers first, but I think the key issues that Floridians care about, things like environment, things like education, things like transportation, you know, we were there to really make a difference," said DeSantis during the signing ceremony in Tallahassee on Friday.
But we've learned his signature also came with a number of vetoes for projects in Northeast Florida.
Among the biggest projects vetoed was Jacksonville's Urban Core Workforce Housing project, which came with an $8 million price tag. Another notable veto includes $500,000 for the expansion for the Real Time Crime Center in Jacksonville.
A variety of other projects across the area were also turned down, including a renovation project at the University of North Florida's Lassiter Hall, the Maccleny Youth Soccer Field in Baker County, the Moccasin Slough Educational Center for Natural Resources in Clay County, and a Camp Blanding Museum expansion project.
Many of these projects were previously identified as 'budget turkeys' by the Florida TaxWatch. The Florida TaxWatch attempts to point out projects that serve a limited area instead of being statewide.
