Florida will submit application to participate in federal unemployment assistance program

Jacksonville FL — Wednesday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced the state will submit an application to participate in the federal government’s Lost Wages Assistance Program. The program is designed to give temporary benefits to eligible people already receiving Reemployment Assistance. The state would offer up an extra $300 a week.

The state says to be eligible, you must currently receive at least $100 from an approved Reemployment Assistance program and you have to show that you’ve become unemployed or partially unemployed due to the pandemic. We’re told payments will be retroactive to August 1st.

The state says the program will be administered like the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation program and the funds for the Lost Wages Assistance program will come from FEMA.
