Flu-like illness outbreak reported in Clay County

An illness outbreak has been reported at a Clay County assisted living facility, as the Florida Department of Health continues to closely monitor flu activity around the state.

We’re told an influenza-like illness was reported at an assisted living facility, with nine residents and eight staff members sick. Further testing is underway to determine the exact diagnosis.

The facility says nine staff members and 18 residents were vaccinated this flu season. The FDOH has reviewed infection control measures with the facility’s leadership.

Overall, we’re told Florida reported “widespread” flu activity to the CDC for the ninth week in a row. Flu activity remains elevated overall in this tenth week that was measured, which corresponds with last week. Elevated activity is expected to continue, according to the FDOH.

Duval, Clay, Nassau, and St. Johns counties are reporting mild flu activity, while Baker is reporting moderate activity. The FDOH report says flu activity is showing signs of increasing in Clay and St. Johns, plateauing in Duval and Baker, and decreasing in Nassau.
