Jacksonville, FL — More than a year and a half after a 4-year-old boy was killed in a crash in Clay County, his mother is now being charged in his death.
Jennifer King, 31, of Green Cove Springs was arrested Tuesday, only days after a warrant was issued for her arrest on charges of DUI manslaughter and DUI with property damage.
The affidavit for arrest warrant we obtained from the Clay County Sheriff's Office, shows that King was driving on November 18, 2016, with her son in the backseat. Investigators say she went off the road on State Road 16, near County Road 315 A, and then came back on to the road and into the path of a pick-up truck that was heading the opposite direction.
King and the truck's driver were both injured in the crash, but her son did not survive.
The affidavit says when troopers tried to talk to her about the crash, she was 'unable to remain awake', with investigators also describing her movements as very slow. The documents show King's drug toxicology testing revealed positive results for methamphetamine and trace amounts of amphetamine.
King is now being held on more than $100,000 bond.
The affidavit says it's not clear if her son was properly restrained at the time of the crash, as his booster seat was found on the ground, outside of the vehicle.
