Hundreds across Jacksonville attend Acosta Bridge walk to celebrate Pride Month, honor Pulse Victims

Hundreds gather to honor Pulse victims, Pride Month

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — On the sixth anniversary of the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando, hundreds of people from across Jacksonville came together to cross the Acosta Bridge in celebration of Pride Month.

This follows the Fernandina Beach Pride Celebration that took place on June 11.

Organizers put on the march to protest LGBTQ+ legislation, remember Pulse victims and celebrate each other.

“you have to stay proud and you have to stay vigilant,” Pride March co-organizer Amy Glassman said to a giant crowd Sunday morning.

Shortly after, the group made their way across the Acosta Bridge in unity. The march was not only a symbol of love and unity but a way to honor and remember the 49 victims of the Pulse Nightclub shooting.

In Jacksonville, Park Place Lounge in Riverside values the importance of the LBGTQ+ community.

“Celebrating pride is signifying years of trial and tribulation and building togetherness in the community and just having inclusion of love throughout the community” the general manager of Park Place Blake Cox stated.

Although there are spots similar to Park Place in the city of Jacksonville, hate still roams the streets.

Action News Jax first told you Saturday that a mystery car tossed plastic bags filled with rocks and derogatory messages about same-sex couples up and down driveways in a St. Nicholas neighborhood.

Park Place manager Blake Cox says learning about what happened makes him angry and frustrated. He knows though that Jacksonville can move forward from it.
