Inmate at Clay County Jail severely injured after intentionally jumping from second floor Wednesday

Clay County FL — The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says an inmate at the jail was severely injured after intentionally falling from a second-floor mezzanine Wednesday.

Deputies say shortly after 11 AM they were notified that a woman needed help after falling and deputies arrived to help her. We’re told after they reviewed the video, the woman left her bunk area, walked up a flight of stairs, and dove head-first over the railing onto the concrete floor below. Deputies are calling the incident an intentional act.

The inmate was taken to the hospital for treatment for what’s described as head and facial injuries.

The name of the inmate was not immediately released.
