Jacksonville Icemen nearing grand opening celebration for Community First Igloo

Jacksonville FL — On this week’s version of “For Locals, By Locals” we look at the upcoming grand opening celebrations happening at the Community First Igloo.

After nearly two years of renovations, the completion of the Community First Igloo is almost here. The building near Emerson Street and Philips Highway is already open and welcoming people in, but the president of the Icemen, Bob Ohrablo, says this grand opening basically means construction will be complete.

“Even if you don’t ice skate there’s a lot to do here”. Ohrablo says.

Coming up between June 6th and 11th, there will be a grand opening celebration happening at the igloo. We reported back in August 2021 when the renovations started. The new facility has two sheets of ice, for ice skating, hockey, and figure skating. There is also an Esports venue, pro shop, and restaurant called Icebreakers, which Ohrablo says hosted watch parties during the Icemen’s playoff run in 2023.

“Every watch party was packed in there, people just enjoying themselves”. Ohrablo says.

He says right now fans of the teams remaining in the Stanley Cup Playoffs have been gathering at Icebreakers to watch the games.

The grand opening is scheduled for June 6th – 11th and different events are happening every day.
