John McCain campaigns for Connie Mack on First Coast

U.S. Senate candidate Connie Mack IV made a campaigns top in Atlantic Beach Tuesday morning and brought a very special guest along with him.  Senator John McCain (R-AZ) was the introductory speaker for Congressman Mack in front of a small crowd of mostly veterans at American Legion Post 316.

"We will be working very closely together, particularly on defense issues, which are very important to this part of Florida," said Sen. McCain, who says he was close with Mack's father, former Congressman and Senator Connie Mack III.

"We all love his father, but it's his record that he's running on and he has a record to run on."

McCain said it would not be just Mack looking to him for advice, but him sometimes looking to Mack for advice on certain issues.  The former GOP presidential nominee called out Mack's opponent, Senator Bill Nelson, for voting along party lines for measures like Obamacare and Dodd-Frank.  It was then Congressman Mack's turn to lay into Nelson, and he warned voters of his penchant for voting alongside the president and failing to meet his responsibilities as a Senator.

"He's failed in almost four years to pass a budget, and then we know that he voted to gut the military," said Mack.  "He's [voted with the president] on energy, he's done it on taxes, he's done it on our military.  It's time for a change in Washington."

A press release from Senator Nelson's office acknowledges that Rep. Mack is making claims that Sen. Nelson voted to cut the military and responded with the following: "About "gutting" the military, Nelson is actually working closely with Republican Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham to avoid drastic cuts to the defense budget."  It goes on to say Rep. Mack's "Penny Plan" would cut $2.8 trillion in defense spending according to "a newly released official study by the nonpolitical research arm of Congress" in the Palm Beach Post.
