JACKSONVILLE, Fla — The Jacksonville Fair Grounds is the place to be this weekend for anyone interested in unique jewelry, or learning about how jewelry is made.
The Jacksonville Gem and Mineral Society’s 35th Annual Jewelry, Gem, Mineral, Fossil, Bead Show and Sale takes place from 10 AM to 6 PM on Friday and Saturday, and 10 AM to 5 PM on Sunday. There will be 45 vendors from around the country sharing one-of-a-kind jewelry, rare and beautiful minerals, and fossils from around the world, as well as lapidary supplies such as faceted gemstones, cabochons, beads, tools, and more.
The local society will also be giving demonstrations of all the different classes they offer throughout the year. Admission is $5 a day or $8 for the whole weekend. Kids 12 and under are free, as well as any scouts in uniform. There’s a $1 discount for anyone 65 and older, military, police, or firefighters.
They’ll be looking to sign up new members all weekend long. Fees to join JGMS are $25 per year for individuals and $40 for a two-person family, plus $5 for each additional member under 18 within a household. In addition to the classes offered at the JGMS center throughout the year, there is a museum onsite at the JGMS center available for education.
Popular activities for JGMS members are field trips to collect rocks and other specimens. In addition to sharing education through classes and field trips, JGMS volunteers also have an outreach program to share gems and minerals with schools and scout troops. The local nonprofit organization is located at 3733 Crown Point Rd. in Mandarin.
