Jacksonville FL — With students and teachers starting a new school year Thursday, the City of Jacksonville and Duval Public Schools announced a new project Wednesday that will provide free coronavirus testing for school employees. Superintendent Dr. Diana Greene says the project is for all employees and if they meet the criteria for symptoms then they will be directed to one of the seven locations where they will get a rapid test.
“We will have the results back within 24 hours.” Dr. Greene says.
She says the seven locations will be at seven different high schools throughout the county, one for each school board district, and the testing will be set up as a drive-thru so employees don’t have to go inside any facilities. If an employee tests positive, then Dr. Green says they will implement steps through the health department, like contact tracing, and take the proper steps to prevent the spread of the virus.
Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry says its a $1.5 million project with the city putting in $750,000 and DCPS contributing the other $750,000.
