State Senator John Thrasher set to resign, lead FSU

A dream come true.
State Senator John Thrasher is confirmed as the next president of Florida State University.
"Obviously I am excited about my new position," Thrasher told WOKV.
He tells us he plans to hand in his resignation to Governor Scott. This means Scott will have to call a special election for State Senator of District 6.
"I intend to submit my resignation as the senator from the sixth district to the Governor tomorrow (Friday). Hopefully that will start the process for him to call a special election."
Thrasher tells us he's thankful to voters who re-elected him. We asked if there was any one candidate he would throw his support behind.
"I'm not going to get involved in that. Let's see how the field turns out. We'll look for hopefully the best candidate to emerge."
In terms of his new role at FSU, he says he officially starts Monday but will be involved in homecoming activities this weekend. One of his goals is to make FSU a top 25 public university, among other things.
"We also have a major capital campaign that's ongoing. We'll be working with that."
We inquired with the Elections Supervisor in St. Johns County about how much a special election would cost. Vicky Oakes tells us it's anywhere from $330,000 to $350,000.
