Several precautions are now in place to keep students safe in Jacksonville amid concerns about the spread of the coronavirus.

Duval County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Dianna Greene has ordered precautions for people returning to school after traveling, new student registration, sanitizing schools, school attendance as well as student or staff travel plans.

The District says it’s keeping close contact with the Florida Department of Health to make future decisions going forward.

The first step: school sanitation starts tomorrow.

The District will use Center for Biocide Chemistries-approved viral disinfectants at all schools. All schools will be treated between Wednesday and the end of Spring Break on March 15.

If a certain school reports a special need for sanitation due to a possible coronavirus infection, the District says staff is prepared to deploy the procedure immediately at any school or facility.

As another precaution, bulk hand sanitizes is being distributed to all schools, and school leaders have been advised to make sure plenty of soap and paper towels are available.
