Jacksonville, Fl. — A local man is facing charges after he was accused of trying to rob a Downtown gas station.
It happened at the Shell Gas Station on North Main Street which is just one block away from the First Baptist Church.
It happened behind the counter because the suspect – who is in a wheelchair went to the clerk for help claiming someone was trying to steal from him in the parking lot.
The clerk did not want to go on camera but spoke with our partners at Action News Jax said he saw the suspect reach into his waistband and he thought he had a gun. That prompted the clerk to reach for a bat, lunged down and press the emergency button to call the police.

A fight broke out at first between the two men as they both grab on to the bat, but then the clerk kicked the man into the hallway, shutting the window and locking all the doors until police arrived.
According to police, no money was taken, and no one was injured. An officer on the scene told our partners at Action News Jax, the suspect will be charged with robbery.
