7-year-old grazed by bullet at westside Jacksonville home

A 7-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital early Sunday after he was grazed by a bullet.

According to JSO, an unknown suspect fired into a home on McQuade Street around 6:30am.

The 7-year-old was the only person hit.  The child was taken to UF Health by his guardian.

“I heard 3 to 4 gunshots,” Darel Love, the boy's uncle, said.

He told Action News Jax that he woke up to shots fired in his house.

“The ceiling started to fall down and glass was a little bit everywhere,” he said.

He said he was fearful for his niece and nephew, who were sleeping upstairs.

“My nephew started screaming,” he said.

Love said he ran upstairs and found the boy covered in blood.

The 7-year-old boy was sleeping when he was grazed by a bullet in the back.

There were at least four bullet holes in his room.

Police said someone either driving or walking by fired the shots.

Investigators said they don’t know why bullets were fired in the direction of the house. Love said he doesn't know either.

“We are blessed and happy that he’s okay,” Love said.

Police don’t have a description of the person who fired the shots at this time, officials said.

Detectives are canvassing the area but do not have any suspect information at this time.
