North Carolina man, an active duty military member, charged with murder in toddler’s death

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — A North Carolina man who is on active duty with the military is accused of killing a toddler on New Year’s Day.

According to the Jacksonville Daily News, police arrested Ricardo Montesinos, 24, of Jacksonville, on a murder charge over the weekend, just days after emergency crews responded to a medical call involving a 2-year-old. The child, later identified as Annaley Ratliff, died, authorities said.

A 2nd Marines Division spokesman identified Montesinos as a hospital corpsman, the newspaper reported. The victim was Montesinos' fiancee's child, the spokesman said.

No further information, including the child’s cause of death, was immediately available.

Montesinos, who was jailed without bond, is scheduled to appear in court Monday, according to The Associated Press.
