Macklemore is celebrating nearly two years of sobriety following a relapse in 2020, the rapper told fans in a social media post this week.
According to People magazine, the 39-year-old took to TikTok on Sunday to share the news.
“I relapsed during the first summer of COVID,” Macklemore, whose real name is Benjamin Hammond Haggerty, wrote in text superimposed on the video. “Today I have 694 days clean.”
He added in the caption: “Love you guys ... share your stories below.”
The Grammy Award-winning musician, who has struggled with drug and alcohol addiction, entered recovery 14 years ago, People reported.
“For me, the most important thing to learn in recovery is that I’m powerless over drugs,” Macklemore told Rolling Stone last week. “The disease is insidious. It’s constantly telling you lies in order for you to go off and go, ‘You know what? I think the best thing for me is to go off and get high’ – knowing damn well that’s the thing that kills me. That’s the insanity portion of the disease.”
