Jacksonville, Fl — Proving that money isn’t everything, Jacksonville Democrat Angie Nixon rode her grassroots campaign to victory in the U.S. Senate Primary Election.

Nixon beat Alexander Vindman, whose brother serves in Congress from Virginia. He was considered the strong favorite, as he had raised over $16 million to Nixon’s $1 million.

Vindman, a former National Security Council official, delivered searing testimony against President Trump in his 2019 impeachment trial. But he lost 56% - 44% in the primary.

Now she will face Senator Ashley Moody in a campaign to fill the last two years of Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s former Senate term. Moody was appointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis after Rubio stepped down.

“We resonated with voters because we went out and talked to them,” Nixon told Jacksonville’s Morning News on Wednesday.
