JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville police are investigating five separate shootings and the death of a man found inside a vehicle in incidents across the city since Saturday.
The violence left seven people shot or dead in separate incidents spanning multiple Jacksonville neighborhoods.
JSO and Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to six scenes between Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. While officers have detained or arrested suspects in three of the shootings, investigators are still searching for suspects in the remaining cases.
At about 1:45 p.m. Sunday, JFRD notified Jacksonville police that an adult male was found dead inside a vehicle parked in front of a home in the 1700 block of Stafford Road. Police said the manner of death remains “pending.”
Earlier Sunday, around 11:08 a.m., officers responded to a vehicle crash in the 600 block of McDuff Avenue North. Employees at a nearby business discovered a man in his early 30s inside the vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and called 911. Investigators determined the shooting occurred nearby in the 100 block of Spring Street. The victim was taken to a local hospital in critical but stable condition. Police said detectives have been unable to speak with the victim and no suspect description is available.
At 3:17 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to a shooting on the 4700 block of Cumberland Cove Court. A man in his early 20s was standing in his front yard when a suspect fired several shots, striking him in the hip. Police said the incident stemmed from a dispute at a restaurant in St. Johns County. The suspect followed the victim in a vehicle to his home in Jacksonville, police said. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and police took the suspect into custody after locating his vehicle.
Around 12:50 a.m. Sunday, police responded to the Edge at Town Center Apartments on the 3544 block of St. Johns Bluff Road South. Investigators said a female suspect in her late 30s shot a man in his mid-40s in the leg during an argument inside her apartment. The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police took the suspect into custody to speak with detectives.
At approximately midnight Sunday, officers were called to the 7200 block of Ken Knight Drive East. A man in his late 40s was standing in his front yard when he got into an argument with a known individual who pulled out a firearm and shot him in the leg. The victim was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and police detained a male suspect in his mid-40s.
The series of incidents began Saturday around 10 p.m. when officers responded to a local hospital where two young adult males arrived with gunshot wounds. Preliminary investigation revealed both men were shot during a fight with another group at the Monaco Arms Apartments. One man sustained gunshot wounds to the shoulder and abdomen, while the second was shot in the shoulder. Both were listed in stable condition and police have no suspect descriptions.
