A pilot is dead following a plane crash in Yulee.
We’ve learned a small plane either lost power or suffered some other kind of complication shortly after taking off. The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office says the pilot crashed in to a remote, marshy area off Miners Road, near A1A and US17.
"A witness on the scene told deputies the airplane appeared to lose power after takeoff and had made what looked like an attempt to come back to the air strip," said Undersheriff George Lueders.
The NCSO tells our partner Action News the pilot was 65-year-old Charlie Yeagle. They received the 9-1-1 calls around 10AM Monday about the plane crash. We’re told nobody else was on board.
The plane can only be accessed by boat because it landed in a marshy area. The NTSB is investigating the accident and the plane will remain where it's at until the NTSB can complete their investigation.
