Jacksonville — The Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southeast says they’ve awarded a $31.7 million contract to a construction group out of North Carolina to move forward with construction of the second phase of Hurricane Irma repairs at Naval Station Mayport and Naval Air Station Jacksonville.
NAVFAC says there will be Seven total projects, Five at Mayport and Two at NAS Jax. NAVFAC says the Two projects at NAS Jax will be restoring the Marina and boat ramp, NAVFAC says damages at the marina include structural pile damage and damage to the floating dock system and to the Mulberry Cove mooring field. Meanwhile NAVFAC says the Five projects at Mayport include fixing shoreline erosion, replacing the small craft basin tower, repairs to the exterior of MWR Building 245, road repairs and preparing for heavier commercial traffic from Mayport Patrol Road to Magazine Road, and new roofs on Building 1488.
NAVFAC says all work is expected to be done by September 2020.
